HMC Weekly: Play the Satelital Demo

Mariano Uvalle is our server admin. You may reach the author at jmug@handmadecities.com

Dear Handmade community,

In a previous HMC Weekly we encouraged you to wishlist Satelital on Steam, created by our meetup host in Tokyo! A free demo is now out for everyone to play:

The creator’s a full-time indie like Abner, let’s give them some love! Consider playing this official demo and leaving a review.

P.S. Any community members in Japan can join our Tokyo newsletter: the author of the Gameboy Assembly book is attending the upcoming meetup .

Onboarding a Backup Admin

Last time, we faced a chat server outage (read my postmortem) but couldn’t tackle it right away due to, you know, life! Abner and I think it’s wise to enlist another set of helping hands to increase availability in the future.

I’m happy to welcome our fellow community member RyNo, who has extensive experience in sysadmin security. We might even tackle our public roadmap a little faster, once RyNo is up-to-speed with our procedures. Thank you for volunteering!

My New Email Address

I now have a proper (and working) Handmade Cities alias. We updated it to match my Revolt username: jmug@handmadecities.com. From now on community members can send me emails at this address. Or if you’re reading this from your Inbox just hit Reply.

Updated Gitea infra

We’re trying a new hosting provider for Gitea (we still like our current provider, but don’t want to be vendor locked), and things are going well so far. I took the oportunity to containerize our deployment, and update to the latest version. We’re now unblocked to onboard both RyNo, and the rest of the folks that have graciously offered their help. Watch your inboxes, I’ll be reaching out soon.

Your server admin,
Mariano
