Hello everyone,

I want to give a warm welcome to all the new Revolt users! We like to send weekly news about what’s happening at Handmade Cities: if you find this unwelcome, we honor unsubscribe requests at the bottom of all our emails.

Apologies for the cadence inconsistency, I usually try to blast these out on Sunday, but sometimes (most times) life gets in the way.

Now for the juicy stuff.

Fix Your Revolt Notifications!

If you haven’t already you can install Handmade Revolt as a PWA on your phone.

A few users reported issues with mobile notifications, and after some investigation (thanks Revolt user @BretHudson) we found out that it was a real issue, and background push notifications just never worked on our build.

Now do this and that to receive notifications properly: Ensure you have this box checked on your client:

Even if it was checked, I recommend you cycle it as this renews your subscription. Please note that background notifications will only work if you don’t have any other client online (i.e. and always open browser tab). I’m working on a fix for this, I’ll have more details in our next update.

For the more curious, this one liner was the issue, and has since been fixed in upstream Revolt.

Seattle Indies Conference: Seattle Slice

Community member axnjaxn (AKA Mr. Blua) is spearheading the Handmade delegation that will attend / present at Seattle Slice! As we all know, Abner strongly prefers a future where Handmade devs run their own indie software shops. We think cross-pollinating with Seattle Indies is a step in that direction.

If you wish to present at Seattle Slice: please contact axnjaxn either on Revolt or using his website above. Seattle Slice is on September 2nd which gives you plenty of time to prepare if we get the ball rolling now.

Gitea Runners

We now have all the Revolt backend images building in gitea! This commit adapts the upstream build to our own CD infra, and pushes to our very own gitea container registry.
